About the Texas Dental Association

The Texas Dental Association (TDA), founded in 1871, is the constituent (state-level) society of the American Dental Association (ADA) for Texas and one of the largest state dental associations in the country, representing over 9,000 member dentists. It is headquartered in Austin.

TDA operates under the tripartite model — a member belongs to a local component society, the state TDA, and the national ADA through a single membership. The TDA is comprised of 26 component (local/district) dental societies grouped into four geographic divisions across Texas. The association's work includes legislative advocacy at the Texas Legislature (where it is among the more active health-profession lobbies), continuing education, practice resources, dental-benefit/insurance programs, and a charitable foundation (the TDA Smiles Foundation).

TDA is governed by a House of Delegates and a Board of Directors, with day-to-day operations led by Executive Director Linda Brady and a staff of roughly 20-26. Given the scale of Texas — the second-most-populous state — the TDA carries significant weight within organized dentistry and within the ADA's national House of Delegates.
