About the Maryland State Dental Association
The Maryland State Dental Association (MSDA), founded in 1883, is the oldest and largest professional association for organized dentistry in Maryland. Its members are licensed Maryland dentists, and membership operates within the American Dental Association's tripartite structure — a dentist joins the national ADA, the state MSDA, and one of the local component societies simultaneously.
MSDA's stated mission is "to serve as the most trusted resource for oral health and be the leading provider in advocacy, education and services". The association lobbies the Maryland General Assembly on dental practice, scope-of-practice, and Medicaid/dental-coverage issues, provides continuing education, and runs member services. Its charitable arm, the MSDA Foundation, operates the Mission of Mercy (MOM) free dental clinics that deliver care to underserved Marylanders.
Governance runs through an Executive Committee comprising the President, President-Elect, Vice President, Vice President-Elect, Speaker of the House, Secretary, Treasurer, Editor, Immediate Past President, and the Executive Director (ex-officio), with a Board of Trustees and a House of Delegates representing the components. The association is headquartered in Columbia, in central Maryland between Baltimore and Washington.
